[PIAS] Entertainment GroupDigital Music News brings us word that [PIAS] Entertainment Group is the latest music label to have agreed to sell its entire catalogue of 44,000 songs DRM-free via iTunes Plus. Other independent labels and distributors that, along with EMI, make up the entire iTunes catalogue of more than two million songs include Sub Pop, Nettwerk, IODA and The Orchard.

Though that’s slightly good news for iTunes Store customers, the bad news is that the other major labels—namely Universal, Sony BMG, and Warner Music—are still not ready to allow Apple the license to sell their songs without DRM.

However, with the studio arms of all three of those companies agreeing to participate in the movie rentals service of the iTunes Store and Jeff Zucker going all pro-Apple in press interviews, I suppose we can still hope to see them all come to some sort of common ground in the near future. We’re keeping our fingers crossed, even as we buy our music off the Amazon MP3 Store in the meanwhile.

Well, if Universal and the other majors don't allow iTunes to sell without drm, they're shooting themselves in the foot, because by allowing one vendor to sell without drm and not the other, they are creating more confusion in the consumer's mind. And a confused consumer is not a happy consumer... The legal market shouldn't be more confusing than P2P, it should be less confusing. By the time those dinosaurs understand that, i'm afraid it would be too late...
