We’re all tired of the man telling us what music to like. Instead, by means of discounts on the iTunes Store for albums, Apple gets to be the man telling us what to like. Apple presents the Next Big Thing.
“iTunes has a fine selection of artists who we think have the true grit (or pure luck) it takes to become the next big thing,” reads the introductory information on the Next Big Thing page.
I am glad that Apple isn’t simply discounting what the big sellers are (reinforcing the music establishment). Hopefully whatever means they use to pick these artists isn’t compromised by some other financial influencer (payola anyone?). I’m not terribly adventurous with my music purchases, but perhaps some of you have already found some gems through the new section in the store.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
