I’m sure many of you are familiar with, or have at least heard of, the Just For You feature in the iTunes Music Store (it’s still in beta). This little service will automatically recommend new music to you based on the tracks, albums, videos, and audiobooks you have purchased. Quite a nifty and helpful little feature, I might add. I can see where it would really take off, if Apple would change one thing:
Let users already specify which albums and artists they already own! My music collection is 6,700 songs. Less than 3% of those songs were purchased from the iTMS, because, believe it or not, people actually still own CDs. This little service could be so amazing: it would find music that suited your taste, promote new artists, let you explore and encounter sounds you may come to love, and actually cause people to buy more music from the iTMS. But that won’t happen as long as the service can’t be personalized to suit your taste in music.
If you feel the same way as me and see some major potential in the Just For You service, consider dropping Apple a line to let them know how you feel. Who knows, maybe iTunes 6.0.5 will sport this new feature?

Click the 'See All' link. Note that the albums in the top half of the display have an 'Already Own It' button and a 'Don't Like It' button.
You can't tag the single tracks in the bottom section, but if you tag an album, it's tracks won't show up.

The feature you're describing is different than what I'm advocating. I want some sort of feature where you can search, choose, and input the music in your library.
The "See All" and "Already Own It" buttons only work with the music that the iTMS recommends. What about all the other music that they don't recommend? There's no way to get that stuff (the music in your library) into the database.

Of course, given the reaction to Apple's introduction of the ministore, would anyone use this feature? You can't have it both ways.
