Just yesterday I posted my personal opinion and experience with reference to the new movie download service in the iTunes Store. Many of you left comments, some agreeing, and others bringing up valid points. But today, I bring concrete evidence… disproving my theory.
Bob Iger, who many of you will recognize as the CEO of Walt Disney, reported this afternoon that 125,000 digital movies have been sold from the iTS in one week. That accounts for $1 million in revenue. Bob also projected $50 million in revenue during the first year of the digital download service. Apparently, people actually (ahem) do buy movies from iTunes. I stand corrected. (Although I still don’t know anyone personally who has bought a movie from iTunes). I suppose it’s also possible that the 125,000 downloads are a result of people like me and you downloading a single movie to test out the service.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but hopefully Disney’s figures at least help to convince other Hollywood studios that iTunes is the place to be.

I wonder though... 125k in one week, sounds like a lot, but is it really? It's nothing compared customers they have. And like you said, there are many people who just want to try it out and they may or may not come back.

Well, sound fun. Too bad, movie and tv show downloads are just available in the U.S. iTS. I'm in Canada and also would DL some.
