Are you dissatisfied with Apple’s standard iPod dock? Do you have a soldering iron? How do you feel about long walks on the beach? Whoops, wrong window.
Anyway, the intrepid guys over at Engadget decided that the iPod dock was broke, and that they would be the ones to fix it. So they set out to build a super iPod dock with FireWire, USB, audio, video, and even serial connectors (for when you travel back to 1988 with your iPod and need to download some tunes from an IBM-compatible PC). Best of all, by following along, you too can go all MacGyver (comments about Richard Dean Anderson’s dreaminess withheld).
Part 1 of their adventure covers acquiring the parts and laying out the schematics (they also build a handy travel charger that gets some laughs from the Transportation Security Administration). Keep your eyes peeled for Part 2, when they decide to take a break and have a snack. Mmm, Cheetos.
