Reader Nicholas says we’re slipping in our old age (two and a half in “blog years” being roughly equivalent to seventy-five humans years). That would explain why I keep forgetting to pack my MacBook’s power adapter in my bag and why last week I yelled at some kids to get off my lawn (despite the fact that we were in a parking lot).
But all of that is beside Nicholas’s point, which is that the Apple Store is now offering refurbished iPod touches. And he’s absolutely right: you can pick up a refurbished 8GB touch for $229 (off the $299 list price) and a 16GB model for $329 (usually $399). All come with the usual one year warranty, so if you’re looking to save some bread on Apple’s spiffiest iPod, that’s a pretty good deal. And, like all current touch models, the refurbs come with the iPod touch Software Update that includes Mail and the other associated apps. Confusingly enough, while the specs for the refurb touches specify “email access” as a feature, they also say “Original Software Release.” So apparently, you will need to shell out the extra $20 (thanks, Chris).
We, however, are obviously too old to deal with these newfangled devices for playing you kids’ rock music and watching tiny videos that we can’t see. Now, if you’ll excuse us, our dentures need some soaking.

Actually, I would like to point out that the Touches that are going for $229 do not have the software update. To get one with the updates software (although they are currently out of stock) it will cost $249.
Just thought you should know.
Actually I don't have dentures but I am 65 and I do read macuser.com.
In Canada the refurbished iPod Touch comes with the software upgrade, so no requirement to pay the extra $20.
