The Nike + iPod family just got a little bigger. Apple announced today that it will be expanding the gear to work with gym equipment at 24 Hour Fitness and Virgin Active Health Clubs.
As Macworld reports:Now users and their personal trainers will be able to track workouts on cardio equipment by plugging in their iPods at the start of the workout. Just like with running, the iPod will upload the data to Nikeplus.com. The workout data will be converted to “CardioMiles” so you can see how much you’ve used the cardio equipment and can set goals, participate in challenges with other users and more.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
And people buy into this crap? Running does not have to be so serious!
Hey! Watch it! I love using my Nike+iPod. It's fun, motivational, and I've developed some worthwhile relationships through the community. Besides most "serious" runners would consider something much more accurate and robust if they wanted an electronic running gadget.
I'd enjoy the gym connection too if I had a membership.
