Multiple iPod syncing and iTunes 7

iTunes 7 One of the hot new features in iTunes 7 is the ability to sync your iPod with multiple computers (Mac or Windows). It sounds great, particularly for those that use a computer both at home and at work. I had high hopes. The news is both good and bad.

First, the good news. Your iTunes Music Store purchases will get pushed to all the authorized computers you connect your iPod to. No more annoying “Do you want to use this iPod with this computer?” The bad news is that it doesn’t work the same way for your own ripped media. It stays put right on your iPod.

It looks like Apple has managed to sell the record companies on the safety of DRM protected media. As a result, they don’t mind those files getting spread everywhere. It’s the unprotected stuff that isn’t tied to an account that they’re worried about. I think Senuti is safe for now.
