iPod shuffle is now only $49

iPod shuffle $49It wouldn’t be a Tuesday if Apple didn’t give us something to talk about. So, naturally, we have some news from Apple today too. The iPod shuffle, which was $79 just an hour ago, is now selling for just $49 on the Apple Store.

The store homepage hasn’t yet been updated to reflect the change yet (which is very uncharacteristic for Apple) but if you click on the tiny little iPod, it leads you to the iPod shuffle page on the Store which gleefully displays the new price.

This is an unexpected move, to say the least. Apple isn’t too fond of dropping prices of its products without changing anything about them or introducing a better model. Are they making room for something new? Or were the sales of the shuffle just too low to justify the higher price tag?

We’ll let you come up with your conjectures.

So now the re-furbed 1GB shuffles and the new ones are the same price...weird.

@yash gupta,
They'd mistakenly updated the price of the 1GB iPod shuffle before taking down the store. :)

@nwmike:
the previous color shuffles are only $49 in the clearance section.
So I would think they will drop the refurbs ones soon.
