iPod nano harkens back to the mini with aluminum and colors

2G iPod nanoWhen Apple killed off the iPod mini, it was the best selling iPod model. Whether that had to do with its small size or sparkly colors, I don’t know, but Apple replaced it with the oh-so-tiny nano. Well, now Steve’s gone and brought the best of the mini to the 2G iPod nano. The easily scratched lucite front of nano has been replaced with an anodized aluminum exterior, the same type of material used in the MacBook Pro.

And like the mini, the nano will now be available in colors: blue, pink, green, silver, and black. Apple’s also changed up the capacities and prices a bit: a 2GB nano will run for $149, a 4GB for $199, and a 8GB for $249. They’ve also upped battery capacity to 24 hours of play, from 14 hours. And, somehow, they’ve managed to shrink the 2G nano so that it’s even smaller than the 1G nano. That’s hard to believe somehow.

They also appear to have shrunken the accessories, so the nano comes in a box hardly bigger than the nano itself. The 2G nano will also work with the Nike+iPod Sport Kit.
