If it seems like all the news lately has been about hacking, well, it kind of has. But this story is totally different. Because it’s not about hacking the iPhone, or the Apple TV, or even the iPod touch. This is about hacking old school on the iPod.
Despite problems with slowness and occasional crashing, some users appear to really dig the new iPod interface found on the iPod classic and the third-gen nano. So much so that a project was initiated to bring that interface to the existing video iPods—the 5G and 5.5G. You’ll find different versions of firmware for each previous generation, adding in the split screen, previews, and all the other shininess you’ve (perhaps) lusted after.
As slick as I find the new interface, I’m plenty happy with the old. Call me an old fogey, but I’m more concerned with listening to my music then navigating the iPod. Given what I’ve heard about the hack suggests that it’s kind of rough in places, I’m happy to stick with my older, if slightly less flashy, iPod firmware.

There are no instructions for firmware installation... I'm not sure if it will void my warranty.
Some users on digg have had their iPod "bricked" after applying this firmware update. If it ain't official, I'll probably not use it.
how do you install it?
okay well first it doesn't brick some people are idiots if you want the full story go to ipodwizard.net....it does a continuous loop all you need to do is reset your ipod put it in disk mode reset once more and it's done....some people panic without even trying to look........
