Having my iPod in the car is key. I take it with me on everything from a multi-state roadtrip to a quick jaunt to the corner store. The hardware I use to connect it is pretty simple: a $20 Sony cassette adapter that I’ve had for five or six years. For the most part, it works great, and since I rarely use the tape deck for anything else, I just leave the adapter in there. The downside is mainly that it’s unsightly.
This is why I need to convince someone to get me a BMW. Hey, my birthday’s coming up; perhaps I could get all the MacUser readers to chip in. Or is that a pyramid scheme? I can never keep them straight. Anyway, back to the Beamers. The auto maker has been providing a way to integrate iPods with car stereo for a few years now, but in their latest cars they’ve begun to add more functionality, allowing drivers to control their music via the stereo system (including its wheel-mounted controls).
As if it weren’t bad enough with every driver on the road on the cellphone, now they’ll all be twiddling their iPod controls. I mean, it was fine when it was just me, but now…does anybody else smell lawsuit? If people sue Apple for turning up their volume too loud, it’s really just a matter of time before iPods are blamed for car crashes.
