Apple adds downloadable games to iPod

iPod TetrisBreakout and Solitaire weren’t enough for you, huh? Looks like Apple is adding a slew of games to all 5G iPods. Hey, if games won’t come to the Mac, they’ll bring the iPod to games. Er. Yeah.

The additional games will be able to be downloaded from the iTunes store for $4.99 each. Titles announced by Steve include Tetris, Mah-jong, Texas Hold ‘Em, Mini Golf, Pac-Man, Bejeweled and more. All have been revamped to work with the iPod’s Click Wheel interface.

If Apple’s allowing downloadable games, it’s only going to be a matter of time before someone figures out how to run an arbitrary program on the iPod. Could this be good news for the homebrew community? I think so.

Updated with iPod game picture from Gizmodo.
