Back in the days before the iPhone ruled the earth, there was another little device that reigned supreme: the iPod. While it’s largely fallen under the shadow of its new baby brother, that doesn’t mean that it’s not still going strong in its own way.
Just yesterday, for example, Timex rolled out a brand new iPod accessory that lets you control your tunes from your watch. The Timex Ironman iControl watch comes in two parts: a small transceiver that plugs into your iPod’s dock-connector port, and a watch in your choice of blue, pink, orange, green, gray, and black. Besides the usual functionality you get from your timepiece—stopwatch, timer, alarms, and, oh yeah, the time—the iControl features play/pause, volume up/down, and track forward/back buttons.
Pretty nifty, and handy for runners. It’ll work with dock-connector iPods and the iPhone (in airplane mode). My only complaint is that you can’t use it at same time as the Nike + iPod kit, since they both need to be hooked up to the dock-connector port (unless somehow they can share the receiver, which seems unlikely). The iControl runs (no pun intended) for $125 and you should be able pick it up at the Apple Store online (not there yet), Timex’s website, and many sporting goods stores.
