iTrip Pocket fits your pocket and your 2G nano

For people who want to “enjoy [their] music, free from the tyranny of headphones”, Griffin Technology has yet another solution: their latest FM transmitter, iTrip Pocket. While such a device doesn’t produce the best sound, particularly in heavily-populated areas, it’s convenient to simply tune any radio to any FM frequency and enjoy your music and podcasts.

The iTrip Pocket is designed to perfectly fit the second-gen iPod nano, but thankfully, it’s compatible with the first generation of the nano as well as 4G and 5G full-size iPods. Convenient features include three presets for most-used frequencies and the option of a mono or stereo mode — the mono mode has a stronger signal. Plus, the frequency in use appears on the iPod’s screen itself.

Personally, I have an iTrip with Dock Connector, and I’m happy enough with it. It doesn’t sound amazing, especially on certain radio receivers, but I find it convenient to be able to send the music to the car, the kitchen or the living room with a cheap and very compact add-on. The iTrip Pocket will run you $49.99.

I bought one of the older Griffin iTrip transmitters and it never really worked. Changing the station was a real pain and customer service was lousy. I pledged never to buy another Griffin product again.
