As if there weren’t enough to like about the iPod touch, here’s another one: some hackers playing around with it discovered that the audio-input pins in the dock-connector port were in fact active, despite the fact there isn’t any way in software to utilize them (well, without hacking it).
Now one ambitious modder has snuck a microphone into a small dock-connector dongle. Plug it into the iPod touch and—as the Turtlenecked One would say—boom, you’ve got sound input. Of course, you’ll still need the appropriate program in order to take advantage of them (a prototype of the microphone has been sent to Erica Sadun, who authored the voice-recording program vNotes for the iPhone).
If you’re interested, you can order one of the microphones yourself, for about €30 (including shipping) by emailing the modder himself via his webpage.

Awesome, I wonder if Apple will do something with this officially or will everyone need to hack it to get it to work.
so who are the modders?
