I’m a big fan of SendStation’s PocketDocks, handly little dongles that attach to your iPod’s dock connector and provide you with useful things like USB, FireWire, and line out ports. They’re clever, practical, well-designed, and, above all, affordable.
Their new Dock Extender product looks like a winner too. In my capacity as a reviewer for Playlist I look at a lot of iPod cases. One of the criterion we note is whether or not the iPod can be docked while it’s nestled snug in the case—the answer is usually a resounding “not so much.” SendStation’s Dock Extender aims to fix that problem by doing rather what its name suggests, extending the iPod’s dock connector so it can be plugged into things like a cradle, or a speaker system, without having to be removed from its case.
The Dock Extender also includes its own universal dock adapter for a nice, comfortable fit. It’s due to be available in March, though no price has been announced yet. If SendStation’s previous products are any indication, I’d expect it to be on the low side.
Too bad it doesn't also include a line out 1/8 port. Just my 2ยข.
