Harman Kardon’s Drive + Play interface for using your iPod in your car has long been one of the best ways to bring together these two separated-at-birth aspects of your life. Drive + Play 2 ups the ante (hey, it’s Vegas) in a number of significant ways, most obviously with a larger, more colorful screen.
They’ve also made a couple of concessions to getting the system installed in your car. If you prefer not to fiddle with drilling holes and hardwiring the unit into your stereo, you can plug the unit into the cigarette lighter and run the wires from there. Also, the control knob (which now turns fully 360°) is wireless. Just affix it to your dash where you want it, and you’re set to go.
The Drive + Play 2 also adds support for a couple of additional modules. There’s a HD radio module, Sirius module, and a Blueetooth module that lets you link your phone into the mix (great, music, phone, and driving: together at last!). I snapped some pics at the Harman Kardon booth. The Drive + Play 2 should drop in March or April around $399 (the add-on units will appear later this year).
