I had just finally gotten used to the idea of the iPhone being on Cingular. I know they’ve been talking up the name change with the slogan that “Cingular is now the new AT&T”. It was taking so long that I began to think it would never complete. The report is that the name transition has hit its final phase.
In fact, AT&T is counting on the iPhone to help really hammer this transition in. What’s odd is that the mobile phone company was still just Cingular at the time of the iPhone’s announcement. The timing wasn’t as good as it could have been (imagine if the events had been in the other order, Cingular may have been a name never on Apple fans’ lips).
yeah.... i dunno... cingular/at&t has always annoyed the crap out of me. i'm going to be sad to leave t-mobile after being with them through 8 years and 2 name changes, but with AT&T getting the 5 year US exclusivity deal for the iphone... AT&T here i come...
but if the Cingular -> AT&T transition is REALLY entering its last stage, wouldn't it make sense that they would have a reasonable wireless website at www.att.com ?? well, apparently not... if they want to make the switch they need to ditch cingular.com. stupid...
it's just stupid to change the carrier for a new phone.......
You're right. You shouldn't have to change carriers just for the equipment they offer. You should change because of the ROLLOVER minutes that only they offer, or the 100 MILLION free calls you can make to other AT&T/Cingular customers (landline OR mobile) or the nights and weekends starting at 7pm, instead of 9pm.
