Swap out the AT&T SIM card for an expensive WiFi-enabled iPod

img-0276.jpgOur brethren over at TUAW have determined that if you take out the iPhone’s SIM card, it will work as a mini Internet tablet and iPod. Of course all that neat stuff like visual voice mail won’t work.

A commenter at GigaOm explains how to do this, and more importantly, why:

To match the iPhone WITHOUT it's Phone features active, you'd have to pony up $800 not to mention add an extra pound or so of additional gadgets.

I've been grousing ever since the iPhone was announced. Gimme that thing, rip the cell phone hardware out of it and put in a hard drive to make the ultimate iPod/sub-sub-notebook computer.
