As reports claim that Microsft’s Zune media player is threatening the iPod’s dominance on the music player market, the Redmond company prepares its competitor to Apple’s iPhone: the Zune Phone. Code-named ObviousFlop, the phone has been kept away from prying eyes and cameras — until now.
A venerable employee deep inside Microsoft managed to snap a photograph of the upcoming phone early this morning while sweeping the floor of the SZF (Secret Zune Facility). Going by the name of techiejanitor, this insider emailed us with the photo and more information about the prototype. “It appears that the Zune team began to work as soon as they could. Apparently, they didn’t even wait for Jobs’s keynote to finish — they got to work immediately after they saw the first photo of the iPhone”, he wrote in his email.
For your convenience, I’ve juxtaposed the photo of the Zune Photo prototype with the mock iPhone image Jobs showed at this year’s Macworld Expo keynote. It appears that, unfortunately, the team truly believes Apple’s iPhone resembles a first-generation iPod with a rotating dial.
Our source could only confirm a few other details: you will only be able to call other Zune Phones, and you will be limited to 3 calls or 3 minutes of talking per day, whichever comes first. Plus, you will pay your phone plan with Zune points. The Zune Phone is expected to ship in 2008. Or 2009. Or 2010. We’re not sure exactly when: the management team is the same as Vista’s.
Wow, your wit knows no bounds.
Amazing post.
While you may jest, MS does admit that they are thinking about it.
