Qwitter wants to save your lungs

qwitter2.jpgSmoking’s a nasty habit. It does horrible things to your insides. It makes you spit up vile gunk. It makes your clothes smell like smoke. And it makes your voice all raspy and coarse until you finally smoke so much your throat gives you the proverbial “screw you” and you wind up having to speak through a voice box from a hole in your trachea. Sci-fi points, sure, but how then do you sing in the shower? Hmm?

So if you’re a slave to the consumer-culture masochism that is cigarette smoking and are interested in throwing off the nicotine shackles, take a look at Tobacco Free Florida’s nifty little quitting aid, Qwitter. It uses the growingly-popular mini-blogging service Twitter to help you keep track of how many cigarettes you smoke a day, as well as keep a journal of how much you hate yourself for doing it.

It’s simple: Using a Twitter account, post a message to “@iquit” with the number of cigarettes you smoked (i.e., “@iquit 52”). It’ll tally them up and create a neat graph to show you your progress. Create a new post to @iquit with a message (instead of a number) to keep a journal. Check here for instructions on how to use Qwitter, including a screencast video for an actual demonstration.

Hopefully you’ll be able to save yourself from the painful physical deterioration to which you’re inevitably doomed if you keep smoking.

Now, sure, it’s not exactly a replacement for the calming nicotine buzz you get when you smoke, or the comfort of knowing you can have a cigarette on break or after work to chill out after a stressful day, or the soothing feel of the smooth smoke as it floods your lungs with every delicate drag….

…Yeah. If you’ll, um, excuse me for a sec, I gotta run out to…do something…quick….
