Converts to a cause often make the most vociferous defenders. Take St. Paul for example, or Malcolm X, or C.S. Lewis. Or…uh…Cat Stevens.
Tycho and Gabe are the duo behind the web’s most popular gaming comic, Penny Arcade. As gamers, the pair are predominantly PC users; in the past, they’ve been critical of the Cult of Apple.
But earlier in the week, Tycho’s news post included a picture of an unopened iMac box, accompanied by the caption: “dear God…What have I done?” This morning he gave his first thoughts, having used the Mac for everything but games this past week:
What I have ascertained is not that PCs as we know them lack good design, but that PCs as we know them have hardly any design to speak of. I’m not trying to be insulting. Use a Mac for a week, and we’ll talk again.
The Mac can always use new fans, especially those as influential and outspoken as Tycho and Gabe. I’ve long been a fan of Penny Arcade, and I’m just happy the boys have finally come to the light side.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun. (Plus, we've got columns by Andy Ihnatko!)
