Heads up, folks: As anticipated, .Mac is now officially offline.
Permanently.
The site is down for “maintenance,” which means Apple is completing the full transition from .Mac to MobileMe. (The transition seemed to begin around June 30th, when .Mac members discovered they were able to send and receive emails from their corresponding @me.com addresses.)
.Mac email accessed from a desktop app—Mail.app on the Mac, for example, or the Mail app on the iPhone—is still available, but all other .Mac services are offline.
While you await eagerly for MobileMe to come online, why not review the .Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ, so you’re completely and totally prepared for the massive changes ahead.
Keep checking www.me.com for the launch, and watch Software Update for the MobileMe Updater for your Mac, which should be coming down the pipe soon.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Itunes 7.7 now available from software update
Ugh. What complete a waste of time. So, they're telling me that there's this new service under a new moniker but pretty much all of my current .Mac will remain the same. Why not just update .Mac rather than rebranding?
Methinks Apple's marketing department has either too much time on their hands or too much influence over the direction of the company or both.
Is this why I'm paying $3000 for a laptop?
i don't know if this has anything to do with it, but lately i have been having some trouble login onto iChat (i used it @mac.com) at certain times of the day... even if try thru adium, still won't let me in...
