My Dream App, the contest started by Phill Ryu over a week ago to come up with an idea for a Mac app, has finally closed app idea submissions today. For a while, I have been tracking the My Dream App contest and following its progress and the progress of the ideas submitted for it on the My Dream App Forums. People, including myself, have been commenting on other people’s ideas, giving them constructive feedback and ideas, and being overall really helpful. This is somewhat surprising figuring that everyone here is competing against each other. Well, with the submissions now closed, fewer people are critiquing other people’s apps, though there is still a fair amount of activity, as people still want feedback on their ideas, either for curiosity or in the event they make the Top 24. Speaking of the Top 24, Phill Ryu will start announcing the 24 finalists on Tuesday, so get ready for some more action at My Dream App. But, for now, the contestants anxiously await whether they will be chosen or not to compete as one of the 24 finalists. But what is the actual chance that one of these people will be chosen as a finalist? Well, I have no idea. But you might. 2,716 ideas submitted, and assuming there were three ideas submitted per person, that’s about 905 people, and 24 spaces to compete for, but only one of your ideas can make it. So, if you could please leave it in the comments, what’s the probability of being a finalist in My Dream App, assuming the finalists are chosen at random?
C'mon, you have Calculator too. It's a 1/37 of getting picked. Actually, it's a 1/39th chance, cause I know one of those spots is reserved for my excellent idea. :-P
