The naked MacBook

Posted by Derik DeLong | Wednesday, May 17, 2006 7:28 PM PT

MacBook Dissection We have Dan’s pictures. We have Cyrus’ pictures. Neither of them had pictures of the MacBook internals though. Like in any horror flick, I want to see guts. Kodawarisan delivers with step by step photos of a MacBook dissection.

He didn’t risk a precious black MacBook, thankfully. Though, maybe, just maybe, the insides of the black version are plated with gold. The pictures do show the location of the hard drive and how easy it is to remove, confirming Aaron’s earlier post. However, the location of the drive doesn’t seem to quite match with AppleInsider’s account (though maybe my reading skills aren’t up to snuff).

At any rate, it’s always fun to see the latest Apple gear in such a compromising position.

It looks like the thermal grease is being used much more sparingly now--is this because the author cleaned the chips up, or did Apple change their production method? If they've fixed the thermal grease application, I believe I'll be buying one of these tomorrow evening.
