Apple shipped my MacBook out on Sunday, and I was a little miffed to see that the estimated arrival date was Friday of this week; after all, I’d shelled out almost twenty bucks for two-day shipping and Sunday to Friday was more like five days. But upon checking the FedEx tracking, I realized that the machine was being shipped from China, and the estimated arrival date was actually Thursday. So I figured, well, four days coming all the way from China isn’t that bad.
So imagine my surprise when I was awoken this morning to the arrival of a brown cardboard box containing the shiny new white computer. Bless you, FedEx two-day shipping. You stand by your name.
First impressions? The packaging is much more compact than any other Mac I’ve bought, and it’s elegant in its simplicity. This is the first Mac I’ve had with the square iPod-like power adapter, and it’s a nice change from the crazy yo-yo of my iBook G3. The remote control looks awesome, and I can’t wait to use FrontRow on a big screen (I also bought a mini DVI to video adapter because I knew I’d be wanting it eventually).
I’m still working on tweaking the machine. Apple’s Migration Assistant does a very good job, but I didn’t have the Universal versions of all of my apps yet, and some of the settings didn’t transfer correctly (as I quickly noticed upon hearing the little swish sound whenever I emptied the trash). All in all, I’m quite pleased so far. I’ll be back with more impressions later.
Personally, I'm kind of concerned about the heat factor. I have never really owned a laptop before my new MacBook, and while I understand that I should expect heat, being too hot to touch seems a little scary. I hope that the heat can be lessened somehow...
Congrats for your new MacBook. I ordered mine on Wednesday evening last week, and it shipped out on Thursday morning from China. Today is Tuesday ,almost a week, my package is sitting at Canada custom office in Ontario. The status is clearance in progress ever since Saturday, May 20. Monday was a Canadian holiday, so 3 days my package stay in the same place without going anywhere. Normally I would get my new Mac with FedEx around 3-5 days. This is so ridicuous. I'm very frustred being in a small town. My estimate delivery is May 25 by 6 pm. I guess untill that day, I'll get my Mac :(--- (Apple Canada standard shipping estimate is withing 12 days. I live 200 Km from Calgary and my package is sitting at Ontario and normally shipping from ON to AB is around 5 days. I'm trying to not think about my package because it made me can't think of anything else) I"m so not happy about this shipment.
