Why must we fight? Can’t we all just get along? Not if CNet has anything to say about it. The website that pitted the Mac mini vs. Windows Media Center is back in the strife business, this time facing off the MacBook Pro against a series of Windows Core Duo based laptops. The first entry is the Acer TravelMate 8200, a 2.0GHz Core Duo laptop.
Running both machines through their paces, the devious taskmasters at CNet concocted eight rounds in which to test their technological prowess. The results? According to CNet, the Acer wins by a hair, eking out Apple in four of the eight categories, with one category being a draw.
There are, of course, some questions. Some of the performance comparisons used software that runs through Apple’s Rosetta layer (Photoshop, for example), giving the MacBook Pro a disadvantage in those tests, though CNet does try to compensate by running the same tasks using XP via Boot Camp on the MBP.
And of course, as Macworld editor Jason Snell is fond of pointing out, people who use Macs do it because they like using Macs; while everybody enjoys the occasional spitting contest, it’s probably not going to convince the die-hard users to switch their allegiance. That said, everybody enjoys a little head-to-head number crunching from time-to-time.
We’re sure the fine folks over at AcerUser.com will be crowing about their victory.
that acer looks like it was designed for blind men with clubbed hands by monkeys in a coalmine.
keep that thing away from my lap.
