It’s a 12 step program that involves editing the contents of kernel extensions (including outright deleting files). However, all those modifications don’t have much explanation. If it does that it says, then it will likely affect battery life, but again, it’s unknown how much. Also, from the responses, the results are spotty with many, many users reporting the whine is as present as ever.
To make matters worse, it’s looking more and more like Apple might never really resolve these issues, creating a whole community suffering from the same issue. I’m in one of those special societies. I haven’t read about any similar problems in the iMacs and Mac minis, but I’m still fearful that the Intel Power Macs might come with their own set of first generation problems.
..and they will, but I doubt the noise problem will be one of them.
Do you know if the 17" MBP models have the same noise problems?
I just ordered a 17" MacBook and I did this because everything I've read lately indicates that the latest revisions of the 15" machines have largely corrected the issues mentioned in earlier models. Apple is now up to Rev E with the hardware, so I am thinking the 17" will reap the benefits of those revisions. Also, having a bigger case has always kept the 17" model running cooler and without as many issues. At least in my experiences with friends.
When I get my 17" I'll be sure to post tons of information about whether it has noises or not. If it does though, I plan on asking for a repair or return until they go away. I work in audio and it will be 100% unacceptable.
