17” MacBook Pro is cheaper than 15” MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro 17inch Reader Peter Cook (through his friend Tripp) points out the fact that if you configure the 15” MacBook Pro to match in processor speed and hard drive space (2.16 GHz and 120 GB hard drive), the price is $2,899. That’s a full $100 above Apple’s retail price of $2799 for the 17” MacBook Pro.

For $100 less, you get a bigger screen, a better Superdrive (dual layer and faster), another USB port, and Firewire 800. That’s an interesting turn of events. Even if you only beef up the processor, the price is still the same. $2,799 is a lot of money, but when you’re comparing it to the existing models, the 17” MacBook Pro is a really great deal. Buy two. Then give one to me.

Yeah, hopefully Apple will be dropping the price of the 15" when Intel reduces processor prices and introduces the 2.33 Core Duo.

It's definitely only a matter of time before they adjust their pricing. Then again, I don't care until an Intel 12" laptop premiers. ;)

I doubt they'll make a 12". Perhaps the 13" wide.

I owned a 15" MBPro for about ten days, but the core 'whine' and LCD inverter 'whine' in concert with what Apple calls a 'normal' operating temperature drove me to return it and lay in wait for a better revision. Anybody know about bugs in the 17" ver.? Would it be a smarter move to hold out for the next batch of intel CPUs and Leopard?
