There’s nothing quite like fanning the fires of conspiracy theory. Aside from the somewhat conspicuous absence of AT&T’s two-years-and-the-blood-of-your-firstborn contract notice on the newest iPhone ad, I also noticed that the date on the New York Times front page that they show is Monday, October 2 2006. Almost eight months to the day before the commercials aired. Is the guy browsing the archives or does this perhaps mean that the iPhone footage was filmed last year? Or could the iPhone contain—wait for it—a flux capacitor?
All four ads also purport to be “happening” at 9:42AM on Sunday June 3rd, which coincides with the day that the ads were first aired—continuing to support the theory that the iPhone can somehow transcend our pitiful human conception of space/time. Indeed, one can come to no other conclusion from the multitude of evidence provided. But what of 9:42AM? Is that moment somehow significant to the prophet Jobs and his followers? Be in line at 9:42AM or be prepared to miss out on the most important event in the world ever.
Feel free to share your theories, crackpot or otherwise, in the comments below.

I'm not entirely sure we should be treating this as a "Lost" episode; nevertheless, "only fools are trapped by space and time."
Just as an FYI. Now all online ads on Apple's site do not show "2 year contract required". Why was this removed?
Let speculation begin!
Dan, I think you've been hanging around John Moltz too much.
Of course 9:42 is important! Everything important always has a 42 in it! This is of course done consciously by the ad/media/tv creatives. There is a 42 put into almost every scifi or action tv show/movie. An iPhone ad is the perfect spot to put in another 42. 42s are everywhere!....
WHOwhowhohahahahaaaaaa
I suspect the 2 year references were taken out by the mystery 12th button, which was thought to be an extra application. after all, the frames with the extra button - on the "how to" ad - have disappeared too.
"Everything important always has a 42 in it!"
Douglas Adams fan?
9:42 AM
You can fit "9" TV shows on the iPhone.
iTunes TV episodes are "42" minutes long.
Always remember to sync your iPhone in the "AM".
This article is totally "Duh."
The iPhone is running Leopard. Everybody knows this. And what is the biggest deal in Leopard? Time Machine!
So obviously the iPhone will have a time machine.
Remember the Keynote? Go back and look at the time it was released. (Enlightenment)
