Alleviating the pain of Mondays with a little humor is never a bad thing, and so we present to you misterbg’s take on the traditional Apple Product Cycle.
Starting with rampant speculation and rumor-mongering brought on by “an obscure component manufacturer somewhere in the Pacific Rim” announcing a major order for some cutting-edge technology, the journey of a new Apple product from rumor to release is explained in comical, cynical detail.
The flame wars in all Mac-related forums regarding the specs of the unannounced new product are covered, as well as Mr. Jobs’s announcement at Macworld and the subsequent praise and Apple stock inflation, the pushing back of the shipping dates, the plummeting Apple stock, the Microsoft-based competition, etc.
Read it for a laugh, but don’t take it too seriously, and note that despite the disparaging tone of the article, the author is a self-professed Apple fan boy since 1982. Huzzah!
It wasn't really funny. Kind of pithy at some points. I find the disclaimer at the end unnecessary and stupid. I would suggest reading it first, then not reading the rest.
I got a good laugh out of it. Passed it along to a couple of others... we all had a good laugh. Thanks!
Pulling updates... re-releasing days later... scrubbing forums... hilarious. Yet true.
Yep, that was pretty funny back in August 2004.
