MobileMe is not so live

MobileMe I’m sorry if I got you all riled up with last night’s post. I woke to the large number of comments indicating that many of you still didn’t have the update. Being the inquisitive, empirical man that I am, I decided to test by running software update on my Mac Pro that I hadn’t updated yet. I got iTunes 7.7 and iTunes 7.7 only.

While my Powerbook was blessed with what’s beginning to seem like a myth of an update, my Mac Pro was left out for once. The software update isn’t suddenly going to change your entire computing experience, but there is something reassuring about having the latest and greatest.

Me.com now reports:

MobileMe is temporarily unavailable.
We’re working hard to restore normal service. Check back soon!

I was beginning to think that Apple would turn around the reliability of its service when they rebranded it. I really wanted to believe that the spotty uptime was a transient thing, but it seems that MobileMe may follow in its footsteps.

As so many of us get an iPhone (I’ve been denied thanks to upgrade eligibility), we’ll be reloading me.com hoping that the service will finally make its real debut. Just don’t hold your breath. We’ll keep you updated as things change.

For some reason I was able to access mobile me for only a couple of minutes yesterday. I did not have to install any software update to do so.

Strange - it works fine for me. Syncing is also working. Last night it didn't, but this morning it's working fine! As well as the push email onto my iPhone. That works like a charm!

How very reassuring it is to know that you will keep us updated as things change. I mean common! Is it so difficult to post about MobileMe going live for real? It has been posted on the Apple support page n all. And I'm not even saying that you should take it as far as TUAW with their countless number of Mobileme is up/down posts.

This is a big day in Apple news and you guys are just taking a time out. Least expected of an Apple blog consisting of people so enthusiastic about the fruit company.

Removed the bookmark and RSS feed from my Mac.

Don't worry about goobimama... He's having a tough day accepting long waits for iPhone 3G, even longer wait for activation and more waiting for Mobile Me to work effectively. We are a frustrated bunch. I feel like I bought Vista.

I'm writing this Saturday at 12:15 p.m. RT. Mobile Me ate all my Sent Mail messages a few minutes ago. Its Account section continues to inform me that there is a problem with my credit card, though there is no problem. Calendar loaded after I waited 3 minutes and Address Book was there 5 min 40 secs after I requested it. The last time there was such an absolute flop at launch, it was for a non-Apple product called Windows. Just as I migrated to Mac back then, I am ready to leave Apple now.
