If you’ve listened to our latest podcast, you’ll know the Scott is our Prognosticator General. He predicted the MacBook Pro bump mere moments before it happened, and I’ve repeatedly doffed my theoretical cap in his direction. So should he say that MacBook Core 2 Duos are on the way, I might straighten up a bit.
But when news came down from on high that British shopping site Play.com had pre-orders for MacBook Core 2 Duos, I raised a slender eyebrow. The site shows a release date of November 13th (six days in the future for the calendar-savvy among us) for both MacBook and MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo machines.
Okay, I’m going to go out on a limb here and declare this nothing more than a typo. For one thing, aside from the title of the product, the Core 2 architecture is mentioned exactly nowhere in the product description: everyplace else, it’s just called Core Duo. My guess? Someone just got confused between Core 2 and Core Duo—hardly surprising, as it’s a terrible naming convention. In addition, the rest of the specs and prices are identical to the current MacBook lineup.
Not to mention that with both the MacBook Pro and MacBook Core 2 Duos due on November 13th, we probably would have seen the MacBook Core 2 Duos announced already. Traditionally, Apple has rolled out new processors in its pro-level offerings before upgrading the consumer-level models. I expect we’ll see Core 2 Duo MacBooks in a few months, perhaps at Macworld.
Or, if you prefer the shortened version of the above: Nothing to see here. Move along.

Uh, Dan - the MacBook Pros already have Core 2 Duo CPUs. They were announced Oct. 24 and shipped the next week.
In case you haven't seen it yet, MacBook Core 2 Duo are available now.
Actually, if you look at Apple's front page today you'll see that the regular MacBooks have indeed been upgraded to Core 2.
Yep, the new Core 2 Duo MacBook is here! You guys got it wrong this time. :-)
