Could Justin Long’s departure from Apple’s “Get a Mac” campaign be laid at the feet of someone else entirely? Someone more like…Bruce Willis? Long is due to star in the fourth installment of the Die Hard franchise, Live Free or Die Hard, as sidekick hacker Matt Foster. French site MacPlus suggests that Long’s image in the film may conflict with his portrayal of the Mac, given that PCs may be used to effect the hacking in the movie.
Okay, all of that aside, let’s discuss the important point here: the fourth Die Hard movie. I’m quite the fan of the entire series (to my mind, Die Hard may be the best Christmas movie ever made) but John McClane taking on hackers? I mean, the man’s taken on the likes of Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons and some pasty-faced computer geek is going to give McClane a hard time (no offense to any pasty-faced computer geeks)? Of course the real question: will there be Reginald VelJohnson? I’ve got my fingers crossed that this movie will be enjoyable, despite the direction of Len Wiseman (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution).
Ahem. Sorry. Anyway, do I think this role affected Long’s part in Apple’s campaign? I doubt it. More likely, Long (or his agents or managers) just decided it was time for a change; who knows how much longer this campaign is likely to last anyway? Rest assured, MacUser staff will be among the first in line to see Live Free or Die Hard—that’s how dedicated we are to you, readers.

Actually, I believe Justin Long's character is an ally of John McClane, not a villain. The villain is played by Timothy Oliphant...or some such name.
Yep, sorry if that wasn't clear: Long is playing a good hacker, helping McClane take on the evil hackers, lead, I believe, by Timothy Olyphant's character.
*sniffle* You didn't even link my earlier article on this. Dan doesn't love me anymore!
umm...Why can't he use a mac to hack (Rhyme unintended). They are Unix Based, which to my knowledge is better for the job than windows, and worse comes to worse, couldn't he just use Windows on a mac anyhow?
All I know is that the filming of this movie practically shut down downtown for several days, and cost me something like $600 in traffic tickets in a single day. *grrr*
