Unwrapping the AirPort Extreme

AirPort Extreme BoxNew AirPort Extremes are starting to wing their way to some customers. Apple Insider has some detailed photos of the new wireless base station being unboxed. While it might lack some of the mystery surrounding the iPhone and the Apple TV, the new AirPort Extreme does still have some questions floating about it: how well does AirPort Disk work, for example? What’s the wireless performance like? How does it taste?

An unboxing certainly won’t answer those issues, but hey, it’s a first step. Plus, it gives us a first look at the new Extreme’s power brick, something I think Apple had, if not concealed, certainly not advertised. Hard to tell from the pics just how big it is, but it doesn’t look, say, Xbox 360-sized. And they’re apparently using a standard AC cord from the brick to the wall, which is nice.

Now that you’ve gotten it out of the box, get that sucker set up, and answer some of our burning questions, eh? My parents are finally getting their house set up on high-speed Internet, and I need to know if I should give them one of my Linksys routers and buy an AirPort Extreme.

oh definitely give them the linkys- purely because it has been tested and shown too work - thus giving them less grief than the new shiny airport extreme might give them. i feel as an off spring its your duty to your parents :)
