The rumor of a Mac pro with quad-core chips inside (for a grand total of eight cores) has been flying around for quite sometime. However, it seems as if this rumor could soon become reality, as Intel is slated to introduce its Core 2 Quad chips next week at CES in Las Vegas. These chips will be the ones targeted for desktop computers such as the iMac, and quite possibly the Mac Pro. Although it would appear the the Core 2 Extreme chip, released a few months ago, would be the more likely adaptation for the Mac Pro.
I am hoping for a quad-core Mac Pro soon, as that means the dual dual-core Mac Pros will be dropping in price, and maybe then I can pick one up off eBay. Intel is supposively demoing the speed of the quad-core chips compared to the dual-core, with a focus on target activities such as music and movie downloads. I’m sure Dan will be covering Intel’s release at CES next week like a hawk.
