No rest for the remote

Posted by Derik DeLong | Wednesday, August 15, 2007 7:25 AM PT

New iMac After the very clever way to store the Apple remote on recent Mac models by sticking to the side using a magnet, Apple’s decided to drop a way to mount the remote onto the iMac itself. In typical, terse, high annoying fashion, Apple’s covered the issue with a knowledge base document.

The iMac (Mid 2007) ships with an Apple Remote. Unlike some previous iMac models, the iMac (Mid 2007) does not include a magnetic Remote rest for storing the remote on the iMac.

That’s it. It’s too bad that Apple has either decided to eliminate this feature or has been forced to in order to prioritize the new form factor. I can see it now, lost remotes numbering in the thousands crying for their iMac parents.

Yes, when I went to put my remote on the side of my aluminum iMac to feel the familiar stick----it wasn't there. I whimpered a little and desperately tried both sides, the front, but to no avail. I miss that little feature.

I don't have one of these fancy Macs with remotes, but with no other remote-operated device do I keep the remote with the device. Kind of defeats the point, no?

I have an early-2006 Intel iMac with a magnetic bit for the Apple Remote.

I have no idea where my Apple Remote is.

I thought I saw a post on another blog about this and they said that the magnet had moved and showed a youtube video of it being in the bottom left hand corner of the new screen
