ModBook to undergo sensitivity training, become twice as nice

Derik and ModBookWe got to have a bit of a hands-on with Axiotron’s ModBook at Macworld Expo, and we liked what we saw. The first tablet Mac is a modded MacBook created by Axiotron and sold through Other World Computing. While originally it was supposed to start shipping this month, Axiotron’s decided to make some changes.

The original design called for a pressure sensitivity of 256 levels, but after receiving comments from users who planned to use the ModBook for illustration and graphics work, Axiotron President Andreas Haas said they’d be increasing that to 512 levels instead:

“We are not content to provide the only TabletMac™ solution, we want the ModBook to be the best tablet computer for our customers period.” said Andreas Haas, President of Axiotron. “While everyone is excited and can’t wait for his ModBook to be delivered, the one thing we were hearing in meetings with customers such as Cartoon Network, Disney Animation, Nike and Pixar, was that the pressure sensitivity could have been higher. So we worked hard together with our development partner WACOM to push the digitizer technology in our ModBook to new limits.”
There you have it. The change will push back the ModBook’s ship date to May, but don’t worry: if you’ve already pre-ordered, your unit will include the increased sensitivity as well, at no extra cost.
