MCE OptiBay: Add a Second HD

2 HDsMCE Technologies has started shipping the new OptiBay Hard Drive, which is a device the size of an internal optical drive housing a second hard drive. Aimed at multimedia professionals, the OptiBay Hard Drive can add up to 160 GB of extra drive space to your portable Mac. Even better, the stock hard drive and MCE’s new one can be combined in a RAID setup, allowing for either one huge hard drive or an ultra-fast mirrored drive, depending on your needs.

For those dealing with video on the go, the mirrored RAID 1 configuration has the potential of adding a significant performance boost to your mobile video rendering, as the hard drive is the bottleneck of portable systems (spinning at only 5400 to 7200 RPM).

To make use of the replaced optical drive, the OptiBay kit includes a FireWire drive case to drop your combo drive or SuperDrive into, turning it into a hot-pluggable external unit. If you find yourself in need of more hard drive space or a faster hard drive setup, the OptiBay may be the perfect accessory.

(On a personal note, I have dealt with MCE Technologies in the past and have received nothing but outstanding service and products! I highly recommend them to anyone interested in the hardware upgrades they offer.)
