So long, Core Solo. You did your time, and we appreciate it, but let’s face it. One core? Just not enough in today’s core-eat-core world of processors. If you’re going to do anything serious, you need that dual-core tastiness. Apple knows this; that’s why they excised the Core Solo from its one remaining spot in the Mac lineup: the low end Mac mini.
Both Mac minis now include Core Duo processors, running at 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz, up from 1.5GHz Solo and 1.66GHz respectively. Prices remain steady at $599 and $799. Otherwise, specs appear to remain the same, which still leaves the question of how the heck this guy’s mini got upgraded. Did Apple send him the wrong machine, or were they playing nice? It’s anybody’s guess.
