Intel Xserve unboxed, stripped down

Intel XserveI’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll probably never have a use for an Xserve. I have to admit that when I worked for some time as a system administrator, I desperately wanted to replace our NT servers with one, but it was something I was never able to convince my bosses. Granted, probably because I was also trying to convince them to replace all the PCs with Macs.

Anyway, the Xserve, while not exactly the black sheep of the Apple family, certainly gets less of the public eye. So it’s always good to see one subjected to same kind of intense scrutiny usually reserved for the more end-user oriented products. Retailer PowerMax has documented an unboxing of one of their new Xserves, complete with gory interior shots. Marvel at the removable power supply; thrill to the slide-out drive carriages; glory over the captive case back screws…er…well, you get the idea.

If you’re one of those people who can’t get enough of the latest Mac hardware, laid bare for your roving eyes to drink in, then you’ll probably want to take a look. And, let’s face it, that’s probably most of us.

This unboxing is incomplete! Did they show any of the racking hardware? I know for a fact that all of that changed from the previous version. They didn't show how the new case opens up, how the new CPU lights function on the front for quad cores, nothing. YAWN. Worst unboxing ever. I guess this is what happens when you let mac-mini people open a server product.

Ah that felt good. I feel like I undressed her myself :-) (Smokes Cigarette). I would like to see more, like those ZIF socketed CPUs lifted and replaced with four cores instead of two. Can Apple please plop down the Clovertown sooner rather than later (please)? Now, why can't Apple post pictures like this? And again ... where is the Clovertown as a BTO??
