Get your Mac’s Blu-Ray on, for a price

Blu-Ray External DriveEarly adopters, listen up. If you’ve been looking for a chance to get ahold of some sweet, sweet Blu-Ray action on your Mac, now’s your chance. Other World Computing is now selling both external and internal Blu-Ray burners. So if you like to live on the bleeding edge, this is the place to be.

OWC’s got five different drives available; 3 internal models (IDE) and two external drives (over USB2/FireWire). You’ll shell out a little more for a bundle including Toast Titanium 8, but you’ll be wanting the software, because without it, OS X doesn’t recognize Blu-Ray discs. I’d call that “worth it.”

The drives run between $559.99 and $739.99. Media runs between $17.95 and $46.95 per disc, though some of the drives come with a couple of discs. Prices will come down eventually, but right now if you want to burn 25GB discs, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny. I’ll stick with DVDs for the time being.
