It’s firmware day! Apple has just put out a metric ton of firmware updates, affecting hardware from the aluminum keyboard to MacBook Pros. The “EFI Firmware Update” ones read as follow:
This update fixes several issues to improve the stability of [insert favorite model here] computers.
Not to be outdone, Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 “addresses an issue with the aluminum Apple Keyboard and the aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard where a key may repeat unexpectedly while typing. The update also addresses other issues.” 10.5.2 is required.
Finally, Firmware Restoration CD 1.6 will help restore Macs to their working state if anything goes wrong during the updating process. Good luck, and leave a note below if you notice any improvements or run into problems.
My MacBook Pro says it doesn't need the update. My Boot ROM version is MBP11.0055.B08 whereas the update promises to upgrade the machine to MBP21.00A5.B08 or MBP31.0070.B07 so I would hazard to the guess that first gen "11" MacBook Pros don't get the "improved stability".
Also, the link to the MacBook Pro update is off in the article. The correct URL is.

I installed firmware 1.3 on my 24" core 2 duo iMac last night. Now the machine does not recognize my 2 external hard drives, scanner, or external dvd burner on firewire or my wacom tablet on usb. It does recognize its own keyboard and mouse and a CF card on usb. Did anyone else receive this benefit., too?
Surprisingly, firmware would not apply update on my Intel first generation MacBook Pro. In the past, all updates have gone perfectly. This time, after downloading update, shutting off computer, then holding power button until sleep light flashed and machine beeped, Apple sound followed by white screen, then nothing for a very long time until machine restarted with firmware update not applied. I retried applying update three more times with identical results.
Update worked perfectly on my MacBook Air.
Checked permissions, etc., and unable to determine why update not applied on MacBook Pro. Trip to Apple Store envisioned.
Same for my macbook (first gen) =(
I've got a "22" MBP and it says it doesn't need the update either. Nothing comes up in software update and the manual update does not install. Anybody have any information on which models of MBP need/don't need the update.
