Okay, so the iMacs aren’t exactly crying, despite anecdotal reports of desktop patterns in the shape of the Virgin Mary. But they are suffering from a bizarre problem where condensation appears beside the iMac’s glass screen panel. A number of users on Apple’s discussion boards have reported the issue, with potential suggestion for causes ranging from weather conditions to insufficient ventilation.
It appears that Apple is replacing or repairing iMacs that exhibit this problem, though no official statement has been made. Other users have reported a similar problem with “yellow dust,” prompting perhaps one of my favorite explanations of a quality assurance problem ever:
It could be yellow specs of dust from the Gobi Desert. I’m not joking, when the wind kicks up in the Gobi Desert the yellow dust can travel as far as Japan. They should keep the doors and windows closed at the assembly plant in China. That’s right: stupid Gobi desert.
