We admired Axiotron’s ModBook back at Macworld Expo when Derik took some time to chat with the makers. Since then, the product has been hit with one delay after another. Back in April they decided to beef the tablet sensitivity up to 512 levels—twice as much as the original specs called for. That meant a delay, but it was done at no extra cost to those who already pre-ordered. Then in May, Axiotron pushed the ship date back once again, this time to July 31st, with some models hopefully appearing in June.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of it. The astute folks over at Infinite Loop noticed that Axiotron had once again bumped the ship date. The page now says: “OWC Currently Estimates this ModBook solution to ship in 4th-Quarter 2007,” a date that Axiotron has confirmed. The reason? Parts shortages.
If it weren’t for the fact that we’ve seen the ModBook in action, we might be shelving it next to the Phantom game console and Duke Nukem Forever. But we believe in Axiotron and OWC: they will make all of our Mac tablet dreams come true or die trying.
Well, maybe not die. But we bet they’d be really sad. They seem like nice guys.
