Apple TV hacks

Apple TV Hard Drive Perhaps the biggest surprise about the Apple TV, at least for me, is how hackable it is and how little time it took to discover this fact. Apple TV Hacks has already been committed to my newsreader.

Kate already did a nice job of linking up some official information, but the new site provides links to tutorials on installing Perian (codec pack), SSH, and how to upgrade the hard drive to a whopping 120 GBs. You can even run a web server off it.

The sheer number of things you can do on this box almost makes it worth the price of admission alone. However, voiding the warranty on what’s already a nice piece of kit makes me queasy.

I am still confused at how to get hard drive out of the TV and hooked up to the mac to mount it: not sure how to take out the ribbon and what connectors I need ect.
