Apple touchy on job post

Posted by Dan Moren | Wednesday, December 19, 2007 7:42 AM PT

MultitouchApple’s posted a job opportunity for a “Reliability Engineer,” and while I’m sure we’d all like our Apple products to be even more reliable, the interesting part comes in the description of the position:

The candidate will work with Apple’s innovative Reliability Engineering team supporting Multi-touch panel development with Mac and iPod hardware groups. [emphasis added]
This shouldn’t really come as surprise to anybody: with the success of the iPhone and the iPod touch, the only thing that would really be shocking is if Apple weren’t trying to figure out how to develop the multitouch interface on the Mac.

Of course, I wouldn’t start leaping up and down proclaiming the appearance of a multitouch Mac at Macworld Expo. Apple develops plenty of products and technologies that don’t even make it to the light of day. So keep those horses firmly held, people.

Meanwhile, if you’re actually interested in engineering reliability, you ought to know that Apple’s looking for people who have experience with a whole slew of different acronyms (HALT, DOE, FMEA, JEDEC, RTFJP). So go forth and bring us high reliability and the chance for multitouch Macs. I promise ye shall be rewarded greatly.

Boy, I wish I knew those acronyms.

Well, I think RTFJP swaps Manual for Job Posting.
