Apple stealthily begins offering 750 GB drives

BTO Hard Drive Completely buried by todays overwhelming Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro announcement, the Mac Pro’s little tech spec update has gotten little play. Back when Apple released the Mac Pro, many people were perplexed as to why the Apple quoted specs only allowed for 2 TB when four 750 GB hard drives would boost it to 3 TB.

Apple’s changed its available options. A 750 GB hard drive with a 16 MB cache is available for each slot in the Mac Pro. The original 500 GB drive is still an option. However, all said and done, the 750 GB drive is a $399 upgrade for the stock drive and a whopping $599 for each additional. When the drive is available for about $300 when you shop around, it’s clearly still a good idea to get it elsewhere. On the other hand, it’s also an option on the 24” iMac for you BTO fiends.
