Well, slashed might be a bit strong, but Apple has dropped prices on their Cinema Display line across the board. If you’re looking for a slick display to go alongside that 8-core Mac Pro that you’ve no doubt already run out to purchase, there’s no better time to snag one of Apple’s excellent monitors.
The 20” display has dropped to $599 from $799, the 23” has gone from $1299 to $899, and the massive 30” is now $1799, instead of $1999. The specs on the displays haven’t changed at all, so those looking for integrated iSights are going to be sorely disappointed. But you are getting the same great display for a few less Benjamins, which is always a cause for celebration.
Might the price cuts be making way for new hardware? As always with Apple, the Magic 8-ball says “Reply hazy, try again.” We tried again and got “For goodness sake, I don’t know, I’m just a piece of plastic.” After that, we carefully put the Magic 8-ball down and ran the hell away.
Does this mean I’ll finally take the plunge and buy an LCD monitor? Much as I like Apple’s offerings, they’re still overpriced compared to other brands: I can snag a Dell 24” display for just $629 right now—$230 less than Apple’s 23” model. But deep in the night, I do hear the shiny silver bezel calling to me…

Psst. Dan. Check out Dell's refurbs. $540 for the 24". I'm locking my credit cards away from myself as I write this.
I've been told that the Dell's don't compare to the ACD's for print work where color calibration is key. I believe ther is an NEC 24" display that compares to the ACD, but it is around $1200. So that 23" is a good deal, if you need what it offers.
For the general user, the Dell I suppose is a steal. I'm thinking about getting one for use with my Macbook Pro for use with Logic, now that I'm working more at home.
That is great for people considering purchasing a new apple monitor now. However, I just want to point out that although the current (new prices) are accurate, the "previous" price is not, unless we are talking about how much they cost many months ago. I just purchased about 2 months ago a 23" for 999, not 1299. It was the standard price. The 20" and 23" displays have dropped $100 bucks each and the 30" dropped $200.
